ABA Tax Assistance Public Service (TAPS) Endowment
Through the newly created Tax Assistance Public Service (TAPS) endowment fund, the ABA Section of Taxation will provide stable, long-term funding for its tax-related public service programs for underserved taxpayers. The initial expectation is that, once the $5 million endowment goal is reached, income from the TAPS fund will be dedicated to support the Christine A. Brunswick Public Service Fellowship program. Young tax attorneys funded by this two-year fellowship work to provide tax-related legal assistance to the underserved. When applying for these highly competitive fellowships, the applicants must secure a potential position with a nonprofit organization that will sponsor and supervise their work during the term of their fellowship. Other programs and services that may be supported by the TAPS Endowment include: Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) Assistance, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Adopt-a-Base, Calendar Calls, and more.
If you wish to make a gift of appreciated assets to TAPS, please contact the FJE Office at 312-988-5927 for more information on how to donate stock gifts.
The Tax Assistance Public Service (TAPS) endowment of the ABA Section of Taxation receives funding through the ABA Fund for Justice and Education (FJE). The FJE was created to accept gifts and grants to support the ABA’s public service work. The FJE qualifies as an exempt fund under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and all contributions to the FJE are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
