ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs

We're Better Together:Lawyers Helping Lawyers

The American Bar Association Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs (CoLAP) is dedicated to assuring that every judge, lawyer and law student has access to resources and assistance when facing substance use disorders and mental health issues. CoLAP supports the work of state and local Lawyer Assistance Programs (LAPs) as they provide hands-on services and support so that legal professionals thrive, families are preserved and clients are protected.

How You Can Help De-Stigmatize Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders

The stigma attached to mental health and substance use disorders continues to keep many who need help from ever asking for it. Your donation will create powerful videos and resources for a profession-wide advocacy campaign that will highlight the personal stories of lawyers, judges, and law students who have bravely received help and overcome their challenges. Recovery from addiction and mental health problems is entirely possible for legal professionals, and your gift to help us raise $25,000, will produce these important videos and resources that will help ensure that fewer of our colleagues face these challenges alone.
